Growing Seeds In Recycled Contianers

It has now started to get warmer which I am sooo happy about. Time to start the seeds inside. But wait... I don't have plastic seed starter packs or pots to start them in. That's ok if you don't either. You can use what's around you. In this video I show you what I planted in. Can anyone else say they don't like the sound of their own voice?  ( lol )

I will be doing another video in the coming days. I have planted corn, carrots, beets and peas outside. Happy Plantings!

2013 Garden Update

I am back and we have made some major updates with our garden. I even have started posting videos on our youtube channel. If you happen to go and visit our channel I would like to apologize for the quality of the videos. I am using an old smart phone to film with and the quality is not that good. We do have a small video camera but its not digital and takes tapes and i can't get anything to load up to my computer. I am trying to save up for a flip camera at least since they seem to be cheaper. I have seen some on Amazon that are used. But we will make due with what we have. That seems to be our moto lately for the past few years. Once you see the garden adn backyard coming together you will see why.

Here is a video of last years garden that didnt do so well. We had rain so much it just rotted everything I planted.

It's a little rough but then we borrowed a tiller from our friend and Tim got it set up real nice. Oh be warned the tiller is really loud so you might want to turn down your volume. We weren't able to fill the garden up with alot of dirt because of the cost. But in the fall when growing seaon is through we will be getting more dirt and compost together. I will be posting another video soon of some added things to the garden and what I just planted. We also have 5 gallon buckets of potatoes too. Which are doing really good.

It's been awhile since I posted last on here. Due to alot of rain our garden didnt do well at all. I do however have lotsa seeds to start for next year. I am excited about that! I started composting with just coffee grinds, egg shells and some lettuce added to some leaves from my house plants and dirt I had leftover. You gotta start somewhere. I have been rethinking things alot. I wish everyone would put there thinking caps on and really figure out a few things. We are a world of convenience. Always on the go. I see alot of people talk about how prices have gone up on food and things we use but do they think, "hey I might be able to do better by making it or growing it myself? I make my own powdered laundry soap from Borax, washing soda powder, baking soda and a bar of laundry soap. 2 tablespoons per load and only cost pennies. I make my own Bisquick mix, Magic Mix, taco seasoning, sofrito, buttermilk biscuits from scratch. I grind my own meat. I make my own dogfood. I watch videos on prepping and homesteading. I reuse things when I can. I do have to say one thing I noticed and that was gas went down a bit. Thank goodness. It's getting to the point that scrapping is only making a few dollars. We found a place that may not pay out as much as the other places but they take alot more stuff. So it is worth it. I will be going over some of these things on how to cut costs so you can too in up coming posts.

Celery is Growing!

I was watching some videos on being frugal. Using things you normally would throw away. This includes food too. If you take some of your veggies scraps that you throw away you can grow more veggies. I did this with celery! I use celery alot and even though it is not that expensive it is something that is great to grow yourself. Mine I am going to plant in a pot outside soon. And it doesn't take long to grow.

Just cut off the bottom of where all the stalks are attached. About several inches of the white part. Keep this piece together. Do not take apart. Then fill up a short wide glass with just enough water to cover the bottom of celery. I put mine in my window and in 2 days I had roots. A few more days new stalks started to grow from the middle. It's just amazing!

We were sooo excited! Its great when you can grow things yourself. I transferred the celery to a small plastic container of dirt. I have my next bunch of celery almost used up so I will be doing this again. Next we will try potatoes this way! But with potatoes I found out they spray some of them with a growth prohibitor so the eyes dont sprout. The last 2 bags I bought must have had this done because no eyes sprouted from the potatoes I put aside.
